What to See in the Highlands

Glenmorangie Distillery. In Tain, this is the home of a fine whiskey preferred by many Americans.

Dornoch Cathedral. In the middle of Dornoch, this small cathedral was founded in 1244 and still serves as an active church.

Dunrobin Castle. Built around 1275 by Robert, Earl of Sutherland, this magnificent castle offers fine paintings and furniture, a beautiful garden and a steam powered fire engine.

Culloden Battlefield. Site of the sad battle in 1746 when the Jacobite forces under Bonnie Prince Charlie were defeated by the English. Outnumbered nearly 2 to 1 by Cumberland's English forces, the Highlanders went into battle with a courage that has passed into legend. Alas, right is often insufficient to beat might.
