Muirfield. One of the top three courses in
Scotland, Muirfield is not to be missed. Guest play is
allowed only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Coat and tie is
required for lunch in the clubhouse, which is men only.
The unique figure eight design and course history makes
this a fabulous opportunity. We apply a year in advance
for tee times.
North Berwick. The west course is the better of the two and runs along the sea. Gullane #1. Adjacent to Muirfield, this is a fun course to play with a ridge that forces play up, down and along side it. Dunbar. East of North Berwick, this course is a fine seaside links course that is not generally crowded with other golfing tourists. Kilspindie. An example of a hidden gem, this links course is hidden in the village of Aberlady. The 1st hole is a par-3 right into the wind off the sea. Hard to find. Blink and you will miss the sign as you round the curve towards Luffness. Longniddry. More like an American course, Longniddry winds back and forth just inland from the sea through the tall trees. Friendly clubhouse with great food. Luffness New. You must play with a member here. This course has the finest greens in Scotland and is not an easy round. |
Muirfield is the home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Fourteen British Opens have produced champions such as Nicklaus, Player, Trevino, Watson and Faldo along with historical greats Harry Vardon, James Braid, Walter Hagen and Henry Cotton. Braid won in 1901 despite the fact that his opening tee shot hooked out of bounds. Muirfield is one of the most challenging tests of your driving skills you will ever encounter. Nicklaus won the 1966 British Open using his driver on only four holes per round. Although there are no water hazards, every hole is a challenge. Good shots are instantly rewarding; bad shots are instantly disastrous.
